MICE Poster Artist: Jerel Dye!

Beginning this weekend, select kiosks and bulletin boards in the Greater Boston area will feature the staggering MICE poster art of Jerel Dye!  We are extremely fortunate to have Jerel as both an exhibitor and as presenter of the workshop “Foldy Comics!” at MICE 2011.  Come learn from Jerel how to make yourself a visual narrative that literally unfolds, and visit his table afterwards!

Cartoonist Jerel Dye lives in Jamaica Plain, MA.  His professional work has appeared in magazines, newspapers, books, and museum exhibitions.   His love of biology, technology and art informs his comics work ranging from his webcomic, From the Clouds, to his original prints at his Etsy shop, DrawJerelDraw, and even to his conversational fabric patterns of asparagus and strawberries.  In between teaching Drawing for Comics & Cartoons to adults and teens at The Eliot School this summer, his recent work has included “The Necrocomicon” (written by Nathan Kitler for the upcoming anthology Hellbound II, published by River Bird Comics) and a series of gorgeous broadside illustrations for the Boston-based poet, Roger Hooper.   One Android fans can rejoice as Jerel is currently working on the next installment of “One Android Stories.”  Cross your fingers for a MICE debut!  See more of his work at jereldye.com.

MICE Poster Artist: Maris Wicks!

Before we paper the town with her awesome poster art for this year’s show, we thought we’d give a little introduction to Maris Wicks! She’s also an exhibitor at MICE 2011, so be sure to stop by her table and say hello.

Maris Wicks lives in Somerville, Massachusetts where she educates the public about marine invertebrates by day and draws comics by night.  Maris has created comics for a number of anthologies (including Adhouse Book’s Project: RomanticMake: Comics About an Intimate Act), as well as many self-published mini-comics.  Most recently, she has written an 8-page Batman story for DC Comics and illustrated the children’s book Yes, Let’s (written by Galen Longstreth, published by Tugboat Press).  Maris is currently illustrating a graphic novel about the early careers of primatologists Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey and Biruté Galdikas, written by Jim Ottaviani for First Second Books.  You can find more of her work at dotsforeyes.blogspot.com
